What is Trimethylolpropane--TMP

Trimethylolpropane (referred to as TMP Hopemed TMOP), chemical name is 2-ethyl-2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-propanediol, also known as trimethylolpropane, 2,2-dimethylol butanol, its molecule has 3 typical hydroxymethyl groups, so they have polyol properties similar to glycerol, can react with organic acids to form monoesters or polyesters, react with aldehydes and ketones to form acetals and ketals, and Reacts with diisocyanates to form carbamates, etc. It is a widely used chemical raw material and chemical product, mainly used in alkyd resin, polyurethane, unsaturated resin, polyester resin, coatings and other fields, and can also be used in the synthesis of aviation lubricating oil, plasticizing, surfactants, wetting agents, explosives, printing inks, etc. It can also be directly used as textile auxiliaries and heat stabilizers for PVC resins, etc.

TMP can be used to produce polyester, polyurethane foam and elastomers. Carbamate produced from TMP, toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and l,3-butanediol has the advantages of high hardness, good elasticity and wear resistance. The high rebound and high load model products synthesized from it can be used to make seat cushions and backrests of airplanes, automobiles, trains, etc.The whole skin model products made from it can be used to make the steering wheel, instrument, armrest and so on. The whole skin microporous products made with it as raw materials can be used as shoe soles and car front and rear bumpers. Polyether polyols with free hydroxyl groups generated by the reaction of TMP with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide are the main raw materials for the production of flexible polyurethane foams; polyesters synthesized from TMP and glycerol maleic acid have weather resistance, It has the characteristics of softness and reduced self-dyeing properties of polyester, and is widely used as a substitute for building materials and leather industry.

TMP can be used to produce plasticizers. In the presence of a non-acidic catalyst, the compound ester formed by the reaction of TMP with monobasic aromatic acids and C5-C9 fatty acids is a good plasticizer. The polymer added with this ester has good resistance to high temperature, hydrolysis and acid. Alkaline properties and good affinity with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), PVC plastics containing this plasticizer can still maintain good electrical insulation in the environment of water. TMP can replace isodecyl alcohol in the production of diisodecyl phthalate, an important plasticizer, used in special coatings such as cables and wires.

TMP can be used to produce emulsifiers. The semi-solid compound formed by partial esterification of TMP with monobasic fatty acid and then reacting with ethylene oxide has a good emulsification effect on oil/water emulsion, and can be used as an emulsifier for medicine and cosmetics. The nonionic surfactants prepared by addition of TMP and propylene oxide have excellent emulsifying and wetting properties. Alkyd resin made of TMP and high molecular weight dibasic fatty acid containing two double bonds is a water/oil emulsifier, which is widely used in textile and printing and dyeing industries.

TMP can be used to produce liquid fuel additives. TMP and oleic acid are alcoholized and then reacted with polyoxymethylene to obtain liquid fuel additives. The liquid fuel after adding 0.5%-1% of this substance can purify the exhaust gas without a vaporization device.

TMP can be used to produce trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA). TMPTA obtained by the alcoholization reaction of TMP and acrylic acid is a widely used acrylate diluent in the field of radiation curing. It has the properties of high double bond content, fast curing, abrasion resistance and solvent resistance. It is mainly used for reactive dilution of UV-curable coatings and inks. agent. It acts as a dilution before ultraviolet irradiation, and after irradiation, it also reacts to form part of the cured film. TMPTA can also be used to prepare unsaturated polyester glass fiber reinforced plastics, reinforced plastics, special alkyd resins, adhesives, synthetic oils, synthetic fiber additives and the processing of chemical membranes.

TMP can be used to produce trimethylolpropane acrylate (TMPTM). TMPTM obtained by esterification of trimethylolpropane and methacrylate is a kind of PVC latex stereotype (anti-corrosion rubber shoes, etc.) and cross-linked PVC coated wire, and can also be used as anaerobic adhesive, rubber ( Ethylene propylene rubber) crosslinking agent and curing agent of ink, can also be used for modification of coatings and resins.

TMP can be used to produce trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ester (TMPTE). TMPTE prepared by the reaction of TMP and epichlorohydrin can be used as reactive diluent for epoxy resin (epoxy resin coating), modifier for polyester and melamine resin, fiber processing agent (anti-wrinkle treatment agent) and Adhesion modifier, etc.
